Emily Bell-Ross

Hold on..

It took me a while to notice the relation to my life now, but after reading 3/4 of the book I was able to relate this to the children at my placement. Although I have no direct relation to the book, it helps me to further understand the teenagers feelings and emotions that I interact with daily at my placement at the Youth Resource Centre.

Being at a homeless shelter I struggle with empathy with the clients because I find it hard to understand the situations that these teenagers are going through, since I’ve never been through anything relatable. Reading this novel has opened up my eyes to the way that these teenagers may be realistically thinking, aside from the things that they actually say. The clients at the shelter, and the clients in the novel have the same types of mental diagnosis which leads me to think that they may think alike. Similarities show through the suicidal ideation, attention seeking and temper.
